Fun DIY Monster Tissue Holder

October 21, 2015 By: CyndiJcomment

Easy DIY craft for kids! Felt tissue holders are great craft project for back-to-school, birthday party favors, and playdate activities. Super easy to create with felt, glue, and buttons.

Falling leaves and falling temperatures always lead to runny little noses – but seriously, I’m wiping my kiddos’ noses sitting at the pool in 99-degree weather!  It just goes with being a kid…..you get the snotzies on a regular basis.  Getting your kiddo to reach for a tissue instead of his sleeve, hand, or my favorite….MOM’s t-shirt (that you’re WEARING)….can be a challenge.  Packs of tissues or wadded up Kleenex seem to be such a hassle for little hands.  BUT, when the tissues come from the mouth of a fun monster, you’ll be shocked at how much easier it is for a kiddo to find a tissue for a runny nose!  These super easy Monster Tissue Holders are so fast, easy and FUN to create with your own little monsters (I say that with LOVE, love, love,  my friends!)

There is such minimal sewing on these that ANYONE can make a monster tissue cozy.  You can choose to stitch up the sides with a machine or by hand.   Either way – totally quick and easy.

Let’s Do This!

Cut a piece of felt to fit the tissue packs (or individual stack of folded tissues) – I make mine about 6″ X 8″. Fold the short ends into the center so it forms an “envelope”, with slight overlap in the middle.  Stitch the sides.

Once the sides are securely stitches, either with embroidery floss (much stronger than thread) or by machine, you are ready to create your monster!  Of course, you could totally add flowers and rhinestones and skip the monster theme all together, but there is something super silly about pulling a tissue from a monsters mouth.   I used basic craft store felt, buttons, and Aleene’s Craft Glue.  Make sure when you buy your felt that it’s heavy and nice quality – there is a lot of thin, flimsy, easily-torn junk out there.  Spend a couple more cents on heavy ply and you’ll be so happy you did.
