Who doesn’t need to add a little bling to their books? These DIY Vintage Rhinestone Bookmarks are a great way to use earrings that lost their precious mate (boohoo), beautiful buttons that lost the perfect jacket, or bits and pieces of heirloom jewelry that is JUST TOO special to throw away. The materials and construction are minimal, and the results are so pretty!
Let’s Do This!
- Ribbon (I love to use velvet, taffeta, and grosgrain). Keep in mind that the jewels and buttons are a bit heavy, so you’ll want to use a “weighty” ribbon as well.
- Metal Ribbon Ends (available at any craft/sewing store)
- Jump Rings
- Beautiful Baubles, Buttons, and Beads
It’s pretty self-explanatory, right? Cut the ribbon for your bookmark length, then secure one end in the Metal Ribbon End. I like to singe BOTH ends of the ribbon with a flame (lighter works well) to reduce the risk of fraying. I only use a Metal Ribbon End on the jeweled because if it’s on the OTHER end, it could get a bit bulky inside a book. You know what I’m sayin’.
After you attach the ribbon end, use jump rings to attach the jewels, baubles, and buttons. Be creative – I love to use broken bracelets and necklaces to add a bit of “length” to the baubles. There are no rules. Add whatever makes you happy.
And there you have it. A beautiful keepsake bookmark in no time at all! Cozy up with a good book, a cup of tea, and a gorgeous vintage DIY project.
Awesome. Love ,Love , Love. Going to make some.
Love your ideas!
