Who says you can’t have an ice cream bowl and eat it too?! These super-easy DIY Melted Candy Bowls are a great way to add a little extra color to your next party, and they are oh-so-fun to make. Lemon, peppermint, cinnamon, butterscotch – the possibilities are endless, and you can find the perfect flavor for every special event.
Let’s Do This: Melted Candy Bowls!
Supplies:
Hard Candy – It takes about 40 candies to make one “ice cream sundae” bowl. This, of course, depends greatly on how big you like to make your sundaes. No judgement here, friends. Here are a couple of options that I’ve used:
Parchment Paper – You will definitely need this so the candy doesn’t stick to the baking sheet. You will be super sad if you don’t use parchment paper. Just trust me.
Bowl (for shaping) – Just use any bowl you have that can withstand a little heat – and one that is the basic shape you’d like for your candy bowl.
Instructions:
- Heat oven to 300-degrees.
- Unwrap the candy (I realize this seems fairly obvious – but friends, you just never know).
- Arrange the candy discs on the parchment-lined baking sheet in a circle-ish pattern. The candies should be close enough that they will melt into each other.
- Place the baking sheet in the oven. The TIME needed to melt the candy is very dependant on the candy itself, but usually 20 – 30 minutes sufficiently melts the discs. Just keep checking it. Catch up on your recorded shows – but don’t go too far from the oven.
- While the candy is melting, spray the outside of your shaping bowl with oil. This will prevent the candy from sticking to the bowl.
- Once the candy is melted, take it out of the oven and let it cool slightly (couple minutes) so you can handle (shape) it with oven gloves. Don’t let it cool too long because the candy will harden and you won’t be able to shape it over the bowl. Trust me. Do not wait too long.
- Using the parchment paper layer to handle the candy “pancake”, drape it over the oiled bowl and press into shape. There may be wrinkles/folds in the candy as you shape it into a bowl, but that’s totally okay. It adds to the interest.
- Peel off the parchment paper and let the amazingly fabulous candy bowl cool completely on the shaping bowl. It might take awhile……be patient. Do not put it in the refrigerator. It will crack and break and you will be extremely sad.
And then you are DONE with your super fun, deliciously edible, amazingly simple candy bowl! Fill it with wrapped candy, ice cream, birthday cake, or just set it out for a beautiful centerpiece!
