Quick & Easy Button Flower Bobby Pins

May 2, 2018 By: CyndiJ1 Comment

button flower bobby pins

These little DIY Button Flower Bobby Pins are so cute and super easy to make.  They were inspired by my youngest daughter who found tiny flowers in our yard and tried to tuck them neatly in her hair.  She finally gave up and ran to get bobby pins, but the little flowers were soon wilted and sad.  We thought making a permanent tiny “flower” with craft buttons would be a fun way to dress up some bobby pins,  and we figured they would last a bit longer than fresh blooms!

Of course, you can just glue the buttons together to make flowers, but using real thread and actually SEWING them to the bobby pins adds a little extra whimsy and cuteness.  If you are adverse to needles and haven’t sewn since your Home Economics class (or, I’m sorry….”Family and Consumer Sciences”), then fire up the glue gun, sister!  This is a judgement-free zone.

Let’s Do This:  DIY Bobby Pins!

Supplies:

  • Buttons

  • Bobby Pins (I love using colored ones)

  • Embroidery Floss / Needle
  • Super Glue (optional)

Decide on your button combinations – the possibilities are ENDLESS!  I like to use 2 or 3 in a “flower stack”, but you are the designer…..stack away!

DIY Button Bobby Pins

Begin to assemble your Button Flower Bobby Pins by threading the embroidery floss into your needle, and sew through the button holes.  Leave a tail on the underside so you can KNOT the floss to secure the threads…..and it will also give you something to sew INTO when you attach the button to the bobby pin.

After several passes through the button holes, sew the button “flower” onto the bobby pin.  You do this ANY way you want….there is no right or wrong way.  Just get it attached.  It doesn’t have to be pretty.  The threads will be on the underside of the button bundle and will NOT show when you (or the lucky recipient) are wearing the bobby pins.   Once you get it attached, knot the threads to secure them….cut off the loose ends…then..GET THIS….add a drop of Super Glue to make it EXTRA SECURE.  Seriously.  This would not the step to skip.  Just do it.

And then you’re done!  Voile!  You have cutesy wootsey little clips for your hair…..super fun to wear in pairs, or even more!

DIY Button Bobby Pins

These make the perfect little party favors for birthdays, tea parties, slumber parties, and more!  They are also a great way to introduce little fingers to a needle and thread….fun and easy (and QUICK) to make.  Have fun adding these to your accessory collection!
