These Anthropologie-Inspired easy DIY hair tie is so ridiculously simple – it really doesn’t even warrant a formal post with “how-to” instructions! However, I have found that a few things are oh-so-obvious, yet I completely miss the simplicity of making it myself. I’m too busy over thinking and over complicating projects, ideas, and life in general. But when I saw these adorable hair ties in my favorite boho store, I couldn’t help but run home and dig out my vintage scarf stash! This is a great way to make your quick ponytail (my everyday GO TO hairdo!) a bit more grown up and ready for the office, a party, or brunch with friends. Hang onto your hats, friends – this DIY fashion hack is lightning fast!
Let’s Do This: DIY Anthropologie Inspired Scarf Hair Ties
Supplies:
Scarves – all shapes, all sizes. If you do not have a scarf stash – because you read that ridiculous book about simplifying your closet, so you ditched your scarves that “didn’t bring you joy” – then get yourself to a thrift store and rescue some beautiful scarves that someone ELSE ditched because they read that crazy book too. And then make a note: “Stop reading books that affect my scarf stash.”
Scrunchies – to coordinate with scarves! There are so many options – chiffon, velvet, satin, cotton – the fiber and color possibilities are (almost) endless. If you sew, these are easy to make yourself. If you just don’t want to be bothered with making your own, then order scrunchies in bulk (so affordable) and have lots of color options for your hair ties. Let’s be honest – scrunchies have a variety of uses and are always good to have around IN BULK. Check out the links below – you get every color imaginable for pennies.
VELVET (poly panne):
CHIFFON:
SATIN:
And THEN…when your package of scrunchies arrives…..BAM! Tie your scarves on your scrunchies and you can ROCK ponytails, buns, up-dos in seconds flat.
Make some beautiful bows, leave some with long tails, make some with a simple knot – it’s nice to have options, my friends.
Scarves come in all shapes and sizes – I get it. My easiest go-to for tying a square scarf is to make a triangle (corner to corner), then keep folding in half until you get a long “rolled” scarf. Here’s the difficult part: tie it on the scrunchie. I know. Could a cute, easy ponytail be any easier?? Just think of all the scarf / scrunchie combos you have just SITTING in your closet!
Tie One On!
Honestly, this is a great way to repurpose some scarves that would otherwise end up in a drawer, or worse yet….a dump! Get creative, dress up your ponytail or bun with a forgotten scarf, and give that beautiful piece of fabric a new chapter of life!
