Do you need 30-60 minutes of uninterrupted time to yourself…..without the “mom-guilt” of sending your kiddos off to the Xbox or a meaningless TV show?
I work part-time, write this blog, and homeschool my two daughters. My life is busy beyond belief! Netflix is my BEST FRIEND when I need a few moments to get things done but don’t want to send my kiddos down a brain-drain on their tablets, phones, or TV.
The titles below have been proven in our family, so I feel comfortable suggesting them to others.. There are MANY more that are on our list of “must-sees”, either for school, or educational down-time. If you have suggestions to add on other titles, please leave your comments!
10 Shows on Netflix that Your Children Will Love
DisneyNature – Wings of Life
The cinematography is beautiful and the lessons about our delicate ecosystem are priceless. Warning: you may become a “Save the Bees” activist after watching this.
We love learning the amazing details about “how things work” and “how things are made”. You will have a whole new appreciation for work boots, subways, septic tanks, and convenience stores. Seriously.
How the States Got Their Shape
My daughter studied US geography this year, so this show helped her memorize the geographical location of each state, as well as SUPER interesting facts about US history.
Wildest Island: Zanzibar (I’m sure the other islands are great too)
As expected, beautiful cinematography and amazing unusual animals.
What kid doesn’t want to know how Legos are actually MADE? Super interesting facts on how the company started.
A powerful, beautiful movie about individual girls around the world. It’s a wonderful lesson in the value of education, cultural diversity and the resilient human spirit.
Dogs with Jobs
Amazing stories about service dogs and the important therapy they provide to people with special needs.
The Crimson Wing – Mystery of Flamingoes
Beautiful insight into the lives of these gorgeous, unique birds! Note: there is discussion about reproduction. Just sayin’.
The Gabby Douglas Story
A great lesson in dedication, tenacity, and overcoming obstacles. If you have kiddos in gymnastics, this is a must-see!
Lakey Peterson – Zero to 100
Incredible story of a world-class athlete with an amazing positive attitude and incredible faith. This movie teaches kiddos to not give up on their dreams, and “being nice” is not a weakness.
To create a comfy at-home movie theater for my girls, I make bowls of popcorn (okay, and a few M&Ms), fill water bottles, and spread out a blanket and pillows. They have fun watching a show, and I get time to take care of MY to-do list. It’s often a much-needed break that makes the rest of our day more enjoyable to spend together!
